I typed "Jane Austen" into the search bar on YouTube and then just kept clicking through videos. (That search opens to a much wider "period drama" search.) These were some of my favorites.
This is pretty much why I like period dramas, particularly Jane Austen adaptations, in a nutshell.
These were just too clever by half.
Love the song, and the video was well done.
Could simply not resist a video of period dramas set to a Jason Mraz song. Double swoon.
I have a "thing" for imaginary men, particularly the variety found in movies and television. I've been contemplating a regular feature highlighting some of my favorite imaginary boyfriends -- well, as regular as anything can ever be on a blog that is completely at the mercy of my erratic schedule. The untimely passing of John Hughes has had me re-examining the effect his movies have had on my life. I came to the conclusion that Hughes has penned some of the best, as far as imaginary boyfriends go.
Keith Nelson
SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL
Granted, he may be under the delusion that he's head over heels for the popular girl, but he eventually comes to his senses and finds the perfect girl has always been right there waiting for him, in the form of his best friend.
Ferris Bueller
FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF
There would be nothing ordinary or predictable about a date, because he can turn even the simplest trip to the city into the adventure of a lifetime. At least until the next adventure.
Duckie
PRETTY IN PINK
The ultimate. The epitome. He's got a great sense of style and will do anything for the woman he loves. He sings and dances, when the occasion calls for it, and according to Iona, he's a helluva kisser.
Steff
PRETTY IN PINK
Dishonorable Mention
I honestly don't know why I'm even admitting an attraction here, because he's a total douchebag, but there's a little something here that I've always liked. Maybe it's just James Spader.
Watts helps Keith hone his kissing skills before his big date with Amanda Jones. This classic "Surprise! Kissing your best friend is more fun than you thought it could be" scene just kills me, particularly the moment when Keith's fingers curl at the back of Watts' jeans. Kills. Me. Dead.
Ask just about any girl what she remembers most about PRETTY IN PINK, and I can almost guarantee you that Jon Cryer's Duckie will be at the top of her list. I mean, they came out with an "Everything's Duckie Edition", for goodness sake. I've heard it said that in a musical, the characters burst into dance and song because it's the only way they can express themselves at that particular point in the story. This is Duckie expressing his love for Andie in the only way he knows how.
CURLY SUE is one of the few John Hughes movies that I can recall watching and enjoying when it was "new". (It wasn't until high school in the mid- to late-90's that I started getting into the whole PRETTY IN PINK, FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF, and THE BREAKFAST CLUB kind of thing.) I think this movie came out around the time I was convinced that I wanted to be a famous movie actress, and I kind of idolized the role of Sue as something to strive for.
I think maybe due to the fact that it has become a tradition of mine to watch CHRISTMAS VACATION every year during the holidays (along with holiday classics like THE REF, SCROOGED and LOVE ACTUALLY), this particular film is the most memorable in my book among the National Lampoon's Vacation films. I think we've all wanted to have a flip out this articulate.

My DVD collection hovers around the 400 mark, but seeing a movie in the theater is an experience I try to savor like a gourmet meal. I love movies and am the go-to gal in my circle of friends for movie recommendations and trivia knowledge. I can rhapsodize about a well-crafted romantic comedy but am not blind to the flaws of the genre. It’s rare for me to come across a film that I will categorically dislike across the board, as I can usually find one enjoyable or entertaining aspect in just about anything.
